Registered Dietitian, Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine Program NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue Astoria, New York, United States
Heart disease has been the leading cause of death in the U.S. for nearly 100 years, and today almost half (48.6%) of Americans are impacted by some type of cardiovascular disease. Through the years, the evolution of research surrounding dietary fats has posed confusion to providers when it comes to recommending whole food fat sources, like fresh avocados, as a part of a heart-healthy diet. Understanding the benefits of incorporating dietary fats for heart health is critical as this nutrient plays a role in mechanisms related to cholesterol, fat-soluble nutrient absorption, taste, and satiety. Total elimination and reduction of dietary fats below recommendations present concerns for patients in regard to sustainable behavior change and outcomes related to heart disease.
Join us for a breakfast session to explore the latest research on dietary fat and cardiovascular disease and the benefits of avocados. You'll enhance your knowledge of the benefits of certain types of dietary fat, learn effective counseling techniques to confidently guide your patients and clients on the topic of dietary fat, and gain tips on how to collaborate with key healthcare team members, like registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN), to improve nutrition outcomes related to heart health.
