Dr. Deepa Sannidhi MD is an Associate Clinical Professor at UC San Diego Department of Family Medicine, and the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at UC San Diego. Trained in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine, with certifications in Lifestyle Medicine and Obesity Medicine, Dr. Sannidhi also practices Integrative Medicine (with an emphasis on Ayurveda/Traditional Indian Medicine). She directs the UC San Diego Supervised Lifestyle and Integrative Medicine (SLIM) Program which provides evidence based intensive lifestyle intervention for people with obesity. As a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Sannidhi enjoys teaching residents and medical students at UC San Diego School of Medicine about lifestyle medicine, nutrition, obesity and mindfulness. She serves as the UCSD site director for the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum.
Her research interests include the translation of evidence-based lifestyle interventions into practice, including the diabetes prevention program, interdisciplinary care for high risk patients, and shared medical appointments for patients with obesity. She is interested in creating primary care practice models that incorporate lifestyle medicine and address obesity and incorporate integrative modalities.
Her service work includes her position as Assistant Program Director within the Preventive Medicine residency, where she assists with administrative functions. She is also faculty at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health where she is currently interim lead for the General Public Health Concentration. She runs a health fair which also serves as a pipeline program for students interested in healthcare from under-represented minorities in medicine and the UC San Diego Walk with a doc program.
She is a member of many professional organizations, including the California Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Preventive Medicine, the American College of Nutrition, and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, where she has served as secretary on the board of directors, and currently is the Chair of the Research Committee and the Shared Medical Appointment Interest Group. Dr. Sannidhi is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, an organization that promotes quality in motivational interviewing training. She trains Preventive Medicine residents and medical students in motivational interviewing principles.
Dr. Sannidhi is married to her high school sweetheart and they have a young daughter. Outside of work, she enjoys eating at healthy restaurants and finding new ways to cook healthy and delicious food.
