Dr. Mark Moeller is a seasoned Family Medicine physician at The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) in Northern California, bringing almost 15 years of extensive clinical and leadership experience to his practice. Throughout his tenure at TPMG, Dr. Moeller has held key roles including APIC of People Development, Wellness Lead for the Regional Adult and Family Chiefs Group, and Chair of the Regional Family Medicine Leads Group. Demonstrating a strong dedication to supporting his colleagues in finding joy in their work, he was instrumental in developing innovative initiatives such as TPMG’s first Joy and Meaning in Medicine (JAMM) assessment tool. Additionally, he co-authored a comprehensive burnout response playbook aimed at empowering operational leaders to improve team engagement resulting in increased care quality and efficiency. Dr. Moeller also helped design and launch the Kaiser Napa Solano Leadership Development Program which has since been rolled out to over 700 physicians and thousands of staff members over the past five years.
Dr. Moeller is a skilled and dynamic teacher, facilitator, and speaker. He presents on a wide range of topics, from leadership development to evidence-based happiness, time management optimization, healthy habit formation, and burnout recovery. Over the past 15 years, he has presented to hundreds of providers and care team members at The Permanente Medical Group as well as at major conferences and large group settings in the U.S and Canada.
Outside of his medical practice with The Permanente Medical Group, Dr. Moeller offers resilience coaching, strategy consulting and professional development to leaders and leadership teams inside and outside the field of medicine. As a pioneer in recognizing burnout and in developing systems to help with recovery and re-engagement, he coined the concept of “foundational health” to describe a coaching strategy that centers on fundamental individual and team practices which form the critical foundation for emotional health, physician health, resilience and growth. Dr. Moeller brings a unique perspective to his work, drawing from three distinctive domains – early professional work in software startups and business innovation, ongoing efforts in supporting physicians and business leaders, and deeply personal experience learning to optimizing his own psychological and physical well-being while navigating significant cardiac issues.
Dr. Moeller lives in Northern California with his wife, Pam. They love living among the agricultural fields that feed much of the U.S., building community, riding gravel bikes and traveling to new places. Mark also finds joy through learning new things, being in awe of nature, exercising enthusiastically, and spending time doing volunteer work and other small things to help make our big world a better place.
