In-Person Workshop: Nature Prescribing for Human and Planetary Health

This workshop will focus on the therapeutic benefits of connecting with nature for both individual well-being and planetary health. The workshop will expand on the concept of the "nature prescription," which involves recommending time spent in natural settings as a way to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Participants in the workshop will learn about the scientific evidence supporting the positive effects of nature on human health, including reduced stress, improved mood, and enhanced overall well-being. These health impacts of access to nature are linked with multiple LM pillars (physical activity, stress management, restorative sleep, social connection). Additionally, the workshop will address environmental risks associated with time spent outdoors, such as air pollution, sun and heat exposure, vector borne illness, and water safety. The workshop will also delve into the broader implications of nature prescribing for planetary health, emphasizing the reciprocal relationship between human well-being and the health of the environment. Practical aspects of the workshop will include discussions on how healthcare professionals, community leaders, and individuals can incorporate nature prescriptions into their practices, health systems, communities, and daily lives. Strategies for ensuring equitable access to nature, including in urban areas and for those with accessibility constraints, will also be explored.
